An exciting lecture took place at the Hart House Reading Room on November 23rd, featuring International Master (and Grand Master elect) Kaiqi Yang as the guest lecturer. Kaiqi was a passionate and engaging speaker who analyzed several games from the recent chess Olympiad in Batumi, Georgia. Being a close friend of many members of the two Chinese Teams (men’s and women’s), both of which were the gold medalists in the Olympiad, Kaiqi was able to share plenty of inside stories from this top level competition, as well as to present several key elements to their success.
The event was open to all members of the Hart House Chess Club and more than 30 people took advantage of this rare opportunity to learn from Kaiqi and pose questions to one of the top IMs in Canada. The lecture lasted for about an hour and it was followed by a lively Q&A session. There was even a slideshow to show the Chinese Chess Olympiad Team in action!
Overall, Kaiqi was a very friendly and cheerful speaker who delivered an illuminating lecture to an enthusiastic crowd of intrigued guests of various skill levels. Our club would like to thank International Master Kaiqi Yang for his lecture and we are looking forward to inviting him again for more lectures in the future.
