The Hart House Chess Club is hosting its Halloween Tournament with a Pizza Party on Saturday, October 31st, 2026. At 3pm, come to Hart House to indulge in pizza, experience a casual tournament with a fun twist, and meet other members of the HHCC community! We’re playing 6 rounds of 10 minutes + 5 seconds chess! We hope to see you there!
A Hand & Brain chess tournament is organized as a 2v2 where one player of each team acts as the “Hands”, while the other the “Brain”. The ‘Brain”, on their team’s turn, can only call out a single chess piece. Then the “Hand” would be tasked with moving a piece that the “Brain” calls, however they like. The “Hand” can decide which piece to move if there are multiple pieces of the same type on the board. It is important to note that the “Brain” can ONLY say the name of a piece, and is not allowed to provide any additional hints.
The teams will be decided based upon players’ ratings to ensure fair matchups. The highest-rated player will be paired with the lowest-rated player, and so on.

- Hands&Brain Event: Saturday, October 31st 4 pm – 7pm
- Registration onsite between 3 pm and 4 pm.
- WHERE: Hart House (7 Hart House Cir, Toronto) – Debates Room.
- WHAT: 6-round Rapid Event (Swiss), with a 10 minute + 5 second time control. One section. Unrated
- RATED: Unrated
- ENTRY FEE: Registration and pizza are FREE for members. Non-Members need to pay $10 for the event and are ineligible for prizes.
- PRIZE FUND: Guaranteed $250. Distribution announced onsite. Prizes for top woman, top unrated, and the top 3 teams.
- MAXIMUM CAPACITY: 60 players.
